The Eternity Connection

FEBRUARY 2025

What a relief! The longest, coldest, month of the year has passed, and we are on the home stretch of winter. We now spend the shortest month of the year immersed in thoughts of love, companionship, and desire; at least commercial advertising would have you believe! There is certainly merit to the underlying meaning and sentiment to Valentine’s Day. One thing I have been shown and felt repeatedly by the Spirit World as a developing medium is the intensity of the love they have for us; so much love that it is nearly impossible to put into words for Sitters. So, as you move through February with an extra focus on love, be it with your partner, family member, pet, or friend, also remember that you are always surrounded by the warm, powerful, and unconditional love emanating from the Spirit World. ~ Jennifer Alison, Newsletter Director

Divine by Design: The Spiritual Art of Self-Love

By Genevieve Parent. Education Coordinator, Eternity Connection

In his 2004 interview on CBC’s radio program Tapestry, Irish poet and writer John O’Donohue reflected on what it means to live a good life and die a good death. He spoke about a sacred place in each of us where there is no negativity, just pure tranquility and in a society like ours which is saturated in consumerism, many people experience a spiritual hunger. He advised the listener that if you withdraw into your own sanctuary, you will find everything you need for refreshment and renewal. The trick to accessing this sanctuary, he felt, is to calm down the stress in our lives. Easy to say, harder to do.

I believe the first step is to love. As author and theorist Bell Hooks stated in the article Love as the Practice of Freedom “Without love, our efforts to liberate ourselves and our world community from oppression and exploitation are doomed”. Loving ourselves honours both the gift of our own life and the Spiritualist emphasis on the interconnectedness of all life.

By embracing self-love, you align with the principle that your soul is inherently valuable, deserving of compassion and care. This practice not only nurtures your personal well-being but also enhances your ability to connect authentically with others, as the love you extend to yourself becomes a wellspring for the love you share with the world.

In this month, where the world focuses on love, I encourage you to look inward and honour your divine essence to foster a deeper connection with yourself. As Spiritualists we know that eternal progress is open to every soul and we have never not existed as Spirit, we never left heaven, and we will never cease to exist as spiritual beings. At its essence I believe Spirit is love.

Meditation, affirmations and soul-centred journaling are great ways to foster more love for yourself. Going into nature and recognizing yourself as part of its beauty and perfection will reinforce a sense of belonging and interconnectedness. Also being of service to others can enhance our capacity for self-love. Observing the beauty around us can awaken and guide us back to what is eternal. John O’Donohue would tell us “Awaken to the quiet miracles that seek no attention” recognize the small and sacred moments that bring connection.
